scar revision

Postby sylvia » Tue Dec 22, 1998 4:39 pm

My son was born with a cleft lip, which was operated at 8
months of age. After removing the stitches, his surgeon told us
to see him again one year later for a new surgical procedure to
"fix" the appearance of the lip. And one year later he
told us it was O.K. and told our baby that maybe he would like to
visit him when he were "big" for some problem. I
understood he meant that he should come back when he was a
teenager? But now I am not sure about this. Can anybody tell me
at what age they had the first scar revision? He has no other
problems, just the appearance of the lip which I think can be
improved.

Thank you from a visitor from Spain.

My son Erik, had his scar revision last November. He had just
turned 5. His lip looks fantastic. You can barely tell that he
has or had a cleft lip. We went for a visit after 2 weeks so that
the doctor could tell how it healed. Then we went back 1 month
later & he was very pleased. Dr. Billmire, our plastic
surgeon, said that after a lip/scar revision, you can tell if
your child will need another. Thankfully we will not. Hope
everything goes well.

Hi I am a 34 male. and I am going to have my scar revision on
march 9 1999. Your son can have scar revision any age and I'll
tell you from my own experience..he better off to have when he is
younger than after he becomes adult because he doesn't have to go
what i went thru all my life in school, family, friends and also
having a problem to get a date.
