When talking starts?

Postby Bailliejo » Fri Sep 12, 2008 6:11 pm

My son is going to be getting his palate repaired in Oct. I was wondering when any of your children started talking after they got their palate repaired. Everyone tells us that he will talk eventually but no one has said anything about around what age he will talk.

Not sure of your son's age but Avery had his palate repair in July at 11 months and two days after his birthday in August said Mama for the first time. He was babbling before that but not much else.

Talking

Postby max's mom » Wed Oct 01, 2008 4:03 pm

Max has always said mama since about 8-9 months of age and he just started saying more words such as no, uh-oh, here, and a lot of babbling. He had his palate fixed in June and he is 16 mos. We are also just starting to work with speech therapy through our school district. They suggested he start learning baby sign language. They also mentioned at his age, he should be able to say at least 2 words.

I guess I just don't understand how you teach an infant sign language. I need to ask our OT about it.
