Hello. I have younger sister, 19 monthes old and she has been
diagnosed with sub-mucous palate or a hidden cleft palate. She
has always spit up through her nose (not as much as she use to,
but every now and then she will) and had many ear infections. She
was born without a uvula, well she has the notch but not the skin
flap that hangs down. The doctor wants to wait to see how her
speech develops before he wants to think about sugery to make the
skin flap that hangs down. She is speaking some but not much. She
can say mama, dada, aaa (This is for Ashley-her sister who is 7),
vava (for Valerie-me), and meow - we just got a new kitten. We
are concerned about her speech and need to know what to do next.
We know that we will need to put her in speech therapy, but we
think she is too young now (maybe not-suggestions). So what can
we do until then to help her with her speech. We would appreciate
any information and suggestions. Please E-mail me at
EponineV@aol.com Thank you, Valerie
