When I took Jacob to the dentist I was informed that Cleft children get cavities easier than other children. Keep that in mind incase you didnt know. He needs one filling one crown and they will be cutting a tooth out of his pallet in Feb. (the one in the fistula) He also met with the cleft board and will not be needing any other surgery this year.

He has a deviated septum and i use a bulb to clean it. He jerked and something popped and poured blood for along time but the doctor said there was no damage does anyone have any advice on a different way to clean it?

No advice but I would like to hear how Jacob reacted to his first trip to the Dentist. We are gearing up for Avery's first trip now. He is still super sensitive to having things in his mouth and I am afraid it is going to be a real nightmare.

Now that we are eating by mouth finally we have been trying to get him to let us clean his teeth regularly but with very little success. His OT has been working diligently on desensitizing his mouth.

oh yeah sure...He actually did great! He sat there and with concern all over his face never took his eyes off the dentist. he sat through it all, overall I think he liked her which is good for a cleft child to like the dentist... Im concerned that after the first dental surgery he may not be too fond of her anymore. Good luck to you I hope he does great!

I am glad to hear it went well. That gives me hope for our first venture.

Well we had our first trip to the Dentis on Tuesday and it was not that bad. Avery only had a slight meltdown. lol He showed us a good way to get in his mouth and clean his teeth, which he hates, so hopefully we will be more successful now. He has a couple of teeth that are fused together in the area of the cleft on the upper left side that may have to come out. His top teeth are a pretty big jumbled mess.
