Median Cleft Lip and Palate

Postby JEVANG1@QIS.NET » Wed Sep 23, 1998 8:20 am

My wife and I have just adopted a little boy from Korea who
has a Median Cleft Lip and Palate. We spoke with a surgeon at
John's Hopkins yesterday and he stated that Median Cleft Lip and
Palate is very rare and he has only seen 2 out of his 500+
surgeries. He also mentioned that Median Cleft Lip and Palate
children have additional risks of brain anomolies. Does anyone
out there know of any families who have a child with a Median
Cleft lip and Palate or know of a surgeon who has performed this
procedure.

Hi John, I was born with a rare craniofacial condition called
arhinia )total absence of the nose). I was born with a median
cleft lip and palate. Median cleft lip and palate is RARE. And
yes it can be associated with brain anomalies but only if it is
part of a syndrome. In my case the only brain anomaly I have is
the lack of my olfactory system. I don't have the ability to
smell. If you would like to discuss the issue of median clefts,
please feel free to email me at kristib@qni.com. Or you can visit
